Child Safety & Online Learning Policy

SG Scholars, operated by Gates Digital Pte Ltd ("SG Scholars", "we", "us" or "our"), is committed to providing a safe, respectful and positive online learning environment for children and young learners.

This Child Safety & Online Learning Policy applies to students, parents/guardians, instructors and other users participating in SG Scholars programmes and online learning activities.

1. Our Commitment to Child Safety

The safety and wellbeing of our students are important to us.

We aim to provide an online learning environment that:

Is respectful, inclusive and appropriate for children;
Protects students from inappropriate behaviour and content;
Encourages positive communication and participation;
Protects students' personal information and privacy; and
Provides appropriate procedures for handling safety concerns or misconduct.

We expect all students, parents/guardians, instructors and other participants to contribute to a safe learning environment.

2. Parent and Guardian Responsibilities

For students under 18, parents or legal guardians remain responsible for supervising the student's use of SG Scholars services where appropriate.

Parents/guardians should:

Ensure the student uses their own authorised account;
Help the student understand appropriate online behaviour;
Provide a suitable and safe learning environment;
Ensure the student does not share unnecessary personal information;
Monitor participation in live online classes where appropriate; and
Contact SG Scholars promptly if they have concerns about a student's safety or wellbeing.

Parents/guardians should also ensure that the student has access to a suitable device, internet connection and learning environment for online classes.

3. Online Classroom Rules

Students are expected to behave respectfully and appropriately during all SG Scholars learning activities.

Students must not:

Bully, threaten, harass or intimidate other participants;
Use abusive, discriminatory or inappropriate language;
Share inappropriate, offensive or harmful content;
Impersonate another person;
Deliberately disrupt classes or learning activities;
Attempt to access another student's account or information;
Record, photograph or distribute other participants without appropriate permission; or
Engage in any other behaviour that may compromise the safety or learning experience of others.

Parents/guardians are encouraged to discuss these expectations with their children before participating in online classes.

4. Communication and Contact

SG Scholars may provide communication channels for learning and support, including email, learning-platform messaging, video-conferencing platforms or other approved tools.

Students should use these channels only for appropriate educational or support-related purposes.

Students should not be asked to provide or share unnecessary personal information, including home addresses, passwords, financial information or other sensitive information.

Where appropriate, communications involving younger students may be conducted through or with the involvement of a parent/guardian.

5. Live Classes, Recording and Privacy

Certain live classes may be conducted using third-party platforms such as Zoom and may be recorded for educational, revision, administrative or quality-control purposes.

Recordings may contain a student's name, voice, image, questions, comments or other information voluntarily shared during the class.

SG Scholars will handle such information in accordance with our Privacy Policy and applicable Singapore data protection requirements.

Students should avoid sharing private or sensitive information during live classes.

Parents/guardians who have questions or concerns regarding recordings or student privacy may contact SG Scholars.

6. Reporting Safety Concerns

Students and parents/guardians are encouraged to report concerns relating to:

Bullying or harassment;
Threats or inappropriate behaviour;
Inappropriate or harmful content;
Unauthorised recording or sharing;
Suspected misuse of an account;
Privacy or personal-data concerns; or
Any other situation that may affect a student's safety.

Reports should be made through the contact details provided on the SG Scholars website.

We will review reported concerns reasonably and take appropriate action based on the circumstances.

Where necessary, we may contact the student's parent/guardian or take other appropriate measures to protect students and other participants.

7. Platform Safety and Enforcement

SG Scholars may take reasonable steps to protect the safety, security and integrity of our learning environment.

Depending on the circumstances, we may:

Provide warnings or guidance;
Restrict participation in a class or activity;
Suspend or restrict an account;
Remove inappropriate content;
Contact a parent/guardian;
Investigate suspected misuse or misconduct; or
Report serious matters to relevant authorities where required or appropriate.

Nothing in this Policy prevents SG Scholars from taking immediate action where reasonably necessary to protect a student or other person from harm.

8. Privacy and Related Policies

This Policy should be read together with the SG Scholars Terms & Conditions and Privacy Policy.

The Privacy Policy explains how SG Scholars collects, uses, stores and protects personal data, including information relating to students and parents/guardians.

The Terms & Conditions explain the rules governing the use of SG Scholars services, course access, payments, intellectual property, account management and other contractual matters.
